While you're being threatened by historic Mississippi River waters, 24 lobbyists bought and paid for by Big Oil and Gas Companies are working in the Capitol to try to steal away your constitutional rights.
Don't let them sell you out. Contact your legislators before this Wednesday, May 18 and tell them to OPPOSE HB 563 and SB 146! For years, Big Oil and Gas Companies have leased Louisiana lands to mine the riches...and then left a big mess to clean up. Even now, oil from the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe dirties the coastal lands of Louisiana.Oil and gas doesn't want to pay for the damage that they have done to our lands. If HB 563/SB 146 and its companion bills and amendments pass this Legislative Session, it will take away our right to go to court to force these corporations to fix the damage which they have done.HB 563/SB 146 would put the "fox in charge of the hen house." These bills are asking the agency that is already responsible for the establishment of standards, enforcement, inspections of impacted sites and the issuance of test and compliance orders will ALSO be the one that will judge disputes over clean-up and remediation.WE are being asked to give up our right to seek damages to property through the court system. Once again the oil and gas industry is looking for ways to get out of taking full responsibility for the damage which they have done.
Don't let pollution be our legacy.Contact your Legislators now and tell them what you think about HB 563/SB 146!
